Overview

The Audit Trail within Requests and Dasseti Requests provides a centralized workspace for reviewing, editing, comparing, restoring, and managing answer history at the question level. It tracks all changes, creating a complete history of updates throughout the request process.
 

How to access the Audit Trail

• Open a Request
• Click the clock icon in the right-hand toolbar of each question

This opens the Audit Trail for the selected question.

The Audit Trail popup remains accessible throughout the Request workflow and is visible to all contributors.

Features 

View and edit answers

• See the Current Answer
  • The Current Answer displays the active answer for the selected question.
  • For supported text-based question types, the answer opens in an inline rich-text editor, allowing users to review and update content without leaving the popup.
     
• Editing and restore functionality directly in the pop-up are supported for:
  • Text
  • Number
  • Date

  • Table question types

• Important Notes
  • The standard “Edit” response option within the questionnaire is disabled while the Audit Trail popup is open.
  • The questionnaire view does not refresh until the popup is closed.

Compare Answer Versions

Users can compare the current answer against any previous revision directly within the Audit Trail.

To compare versions:

1. Open the Audit Trail popup.
2. Select a previous revision from the audit history list.
3. The selected revision is automatically compared against the current version.
4. Differences between versions are highlighted for easy review.

Compared versions are visually marked within the revision history list to improve clarity during the review process.

This feature helps reviewers quickly identify:

• Content additions
• Removed responses
• Updated language

• Formatting changes

Restore Previous Answer Versions

Users can restore an earlier answer version directly from the Audit Trail popup.

When restoring a version:

• The selected historical version becomes the new current answer.
• The restore action is automatically logged as a new audit event.
• Full traceability of all changes is maintained.

This allows teams to safely revert unwanted edits while preserving a complete audit history.

Review & Approval Actions

Users with the appropriate assignments or permissions can complete review actions directly from the popup, including:

• Approve
• Reject
• Mark Ready for Review

These controls only appear when the user holds the relevant assignment permissions for that question.

This allows reviewers to complete workflow actions without leaving the Audit Trail interface.

Navigate Between Questions

Navigation arrows within the popup allow users to move directly to the:

• Next question
• Previous question

This enables faster review cycles by eliminating the need to repeatedly close and reopen the Audit Trail for each question.

View/Edit Answer Comments

Answer comments are now permanently visible alongside revision history within the Audit Trail popup.

Users can:

• Add comments
• Edit comments inline
• Delete comments
• View timestamps for all comment activity

Keeping comments visible within the audit workspace improves collaboration and provides additional context for answer revisions and review decisions.

View answer source

Each answer revision now displays the originating answer source, including:

• Smart Search/Autofill
• SmartDocs
• Chat with Docs
• Manual Update

This provides additional transparency into how answers were generated or updated throughout the request lifecycle.

Additionally, SmartDocs references now automatically display an “(Edited)” indicator whenever a source has been modified after generation.
